Bruce Bochy

February 25, 2008 - Bruce Douglas Bochy was born on April 16, 1955 in Landes de Boussac, France. He is best known for his leadership role on the San Francisco Giants Pro Baseball team as their manager.
Prior to his coaching career, Bochy was a Pro Baseball catcher. For two seasons, he played on the Houston Astros. In 1982, he played one season for the New York Mets before playing four seasons on the San Diego Padres. During his career, Bochy recorded 26 home runs in 802 at-bats with a .239 batting average. Bochy was the back-up catcher for Terry Kennedy when the Padres won their first pennant in 1984. Bochy was also on the Padres when they lost the 1984 World Series to the Detroit Tigers.
After retiring as an Pro Baseball player, Bochy went on to coach. Returning to San Diego, Bochy managed the San Diego Padres for 12 seasons. He became the first Padres player to become the team's manger. During his time as manager, Bochy led his team to four of the five postseason appearances in the team's history. The Padres won division titles in 1996, 1998, 2005 and 2006. The Padres claimed their first NL pennant in 14 years in 1998, but unfortunately was unable to earn a World Series title as the New York Yankees defeated them.
As manager of the San Diego Padres, Bochy won 900 games, the most in Padres' history. Bochy went on to earn the title of NL Manager of the Year in 1996. Bochy became the new San Francisco Giants' manager on October 27, 2006 in replacement of Felipe Alou.
